Oslo-based technology provider T-VIPS has unveiled a new hardware solution capable of upgrading a DVB-T2 headend for full DVB-T2 compliance.
The DVB-T2 Gateway, part of T-VIPS’ cProcessor range, sits in the headend after the multiplexer. It enables operators to have DVB-T and DVB-T2 services sit side by side in a network, an option that the Norwegian company believes will be very attractive to operators. The transport stream is rearranged into the DVB-T2 modular interface, which in turn controls the modulator parameters and provides the accurate timing needed in an SFN network.
“The need to launch HD terrestrial services is accelerating the move to both DVB-T2 and MPEG-4 for terrestrial operators. This product makes that move as simple and as cost-effective as possible, by converting existing terrestrial headends for DVB-T2 operation,” says Johnny Dolvik, CEO, T-VIPS. “This is the first product on the market that can cost-effectively take an existing head-end and make it fully DVB-T2 compliant.
DVB-T2 is capable of offering capacity savings of between 30% and 50% over the standard DVB-T system.
