Digital video networking specialist BigBand Networks plans to showcase its new IP video delivery product for the cable sector, vIP PASS. The suite is designed to capitalise on existing infrastructure and deliver a smart three-screen solution via DOCSIS 3.0 modems.
It uses DOCSIS to deliver video streams to IP-enabled cable modems without involving CMTS. Thos allows service providers to offer their customers a three-screens experience across TV, PC and mobile devices, while saving CMTS bandwidth for voice or data.
The approach employs proven edge QAM platforms, video control plane technology and video QoS and performance tools. It has already seen its first commercial deployment in Korea’s LG Powercom.
