Dutch MSO Ziggo plans to start to roll out its VOD service before the end of the year. At the same time, the operator will introduce EuroDOCSIS 3.0 subscriptions with speeds above 100 Mbps. “For the end of 2008 we expect to be able to make a start with rolling out our VOD program, with most of the impact expected in the first quarter of 2009,” the company said in a statement. “In parallel we will be preparing the introduction of EuroDOCSIS 3.0.”
The operator also announced its official half-year figures for 2008. The total number of subscribed services purchased by their customers increased to 6.4 million – a 4% growth compared to the end of 2007.
Standard television: with 3,263,000 subscribers, the number fell by 14,000 as a result of increased competition.
Digital television: In the first half of 2008, the market for digital television grew rapidly and resulted in an increase of 161,000 customers in a total base of 995,000.
Broadband internet: The number of subscribers grew 3% to 1,388,000. The market is reaching saturation and remains highly competitive, according to Ziggo.
Telephony: Telephony subscriptions reached 770,000, or 10% more than at the end of 2007.
