UKTV has revealed the two new names for UKTV Documentary and UKTV People as the BBC Worldwide-Virgin Media group continues its rebranding exercise. Eden and Blighty will launch early in 2009.
Eden will include programmes including Planet Earth, Superstorm, Tribe and Big Cat Diary. Blighty, taking the name that Britons often refer to their country as, will feature modern life in the country through shows as varied as Who Do You Think You Are?, Coast, Trawlerman and Louis Theroux Meets.
“We’ve created two destination brands that reflect the truly inspirational programming we have,” explained Jane Mote, director of factual, lifestyle and new media. “Eden gives viewers the opportunity to gorge on breathtaking programmes that celebrate the sheer magnitude and wonder of our world. While Blighty captures the spirit of contemporary Britain and celebrates why we love to be on home turf. We have access to the best factual content about Britain and will be creating new shows as well that get under the skin of our quirky, diverse and constantly fascinating nation.”
The new channel launches will be accompanied by two new websites. Channel idents and positioning have been created by Red Bee Media.
Earlier this week the opening night of Watch saw the channel become the third most popular pay-TV channel. The debut of Richard and Judy’s New Position claimed an average of 143,000 viewers.
