MTV Networks International is today launching a Hungarian version of its popular Comedy Central. The channel goes live at 14.00 CET.
The latest addition to the Central and East Europe network will immediately have access to 1.5 million households on cable and satellite. Carriage has been secured on platforms including UPC, T-Kabel, PR Telecom and Tarr Kft.
The competitive market – HBO Comedy is already present – means Comedy Central is going straight in with local production. New weekly sketch series Magyarok az Urben (Hungarians in Space), and popular improvisation show, Beugró (Understudy) will sit with classic and new US and British comedies.
Bhavneet Singh, Managing Director and Executive Vice President, Emerging Markets, MTVNI, said: “We’ve enjoyed huge success to date in Hungary with our MTV and Viva music brands and the launch of Comedy Central is a natural next step as we continue to expand our portfolio further still. We are hoping to introduce a dedicated kids’ service in the near future with the aim of becoming the leading one-stop-shop, multi-genre, multi-platform content provider in Hungary.”
Coinciding with the channel debut, a new website will launch at www.comedycental.hu, featuring an online community, programme synopses, programme schedules and promos.
