Distribution revenue growth of 23% in continental Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America helped Discovery Channel’s International Networks increase second quarter revenues by 21% to $301 million.
The division also grew its advertising revenues in EMEA and Latin America through both volume and higher rates, through was dragged back in part by lower advertising revenues in the UK.
Discovery also benefitted from $17 million of favourable currency fluctuations, and a 47% growth in other revenues, helped along by the sale of Discovery programmes in the UK.
Adjusted operating income before depreciation and amortisation increased 55% to $87 million. When currency fluctuations are stripped out, adjusted OIBDA (Operating Income Before Depreciation and Amortisation) increased by 36% against the second quarter of 2007.
