The German cable operator Unitymedia has added all open access channels to its digital line-up in the state of Hesse. The local channels in the cities of Kassel, Gießen, Fulda and Offenbach/Frankfurt can now be seen in their respective service areas.
The distribution of the local broadcasters is made possible thanks to special cooperation between Unitymedia and the local media authority Hessischen Landesanstalt für privaten Rundfunk und neue Medien, LPR Hessen.
The signals from the various broadcasters are transported via fibre-optic cable to Unitymedia’s technical center in Kerpen near Cologne and from there inserted in the local networks so it can reach local viewers in each of the service areas. The channels are available at no extra cost to digital TV subscribers. At the moment, Unitymedia has over one million digital homes connected.
