Dutch incumbent KPN said it enjoyed further growth of its digital TV services with 636,00 subscribers at the end of June, up from 553,000 on March 31, 2008. The figures represent the combined subscriber totals of its DTT platform Digitenne and the IPTV service KPN Interactieve TV.
KPN said it enjoyed a “good performance in TV revenues driven by high demand for Digitenne. The rollout of KPN’s TV services accelerated during the quarter with customer numbers reaching 636k. KPN’s digital TV market share increased from 19% in Q1 2008 to approximately 20%.”
During the quarter, KPN also started to roll out its DVB-H mobile TV service and reports “a good demand during the first few weeks.” Until the end of August KPN offers its mobile TV service for free to new subscribers for a period of two years. After that date, a monthly fee of €9.95 is payable.
KPN is the third largest provider of digital TV. Cable operator Ziggo leads the market with 1 million subs, followed by DTH platform Canal Digitaal Satelliet with around 750,000 homes. UPC still has to publish its digital TV figures for Q2.
