RTE has launched an online 24 hour news service available throughout the world from the broadcaster’s website. The launch of RTÉ News Now has been timed to coincide with the Lisbon Treaty referendum that took place on Thursday, June 12.
RTÉ News Now will carry around 10 news bulletins a day from RTÉ One and RTÉ Two as well as the broadcaster’s flagship current affairs programmes Prime Time, Questions and Answers and The Week in Politics.
The looped schedule will break away for coverage of special events, breaking news and live sport.
A previous attempt at an online news channel, the independent Ireland Live Television, launched in 2002 but subsequently folded.
