Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel) has launched its mobile TV service using Nokia Siemens Networks’ Mobile TV streaming solution, thereby complementing its mio TV service.
Nokia Siemens Networks’ mobile TV streaming deployment, including a mobile client application, is one of its first in the Asia Pacific region. SingTel will also be the first mobile operator to launch the service in Singapore. The new service provides live TV channels with electronic program guide (EPG) information and VOD.
SingTel has chosen Nokia Siemens Networks’ Media Delivery Solution (MDS) 3.5 as its mobile TV platform. The phone application is based on Adobe’s Flash Lite technology.
In a related development, Nokia Siemens says it has also provided Swisscom’s subsidiary Swisscom Broadcast with Nokia’s Mobile Broadcast Solution for its recently launched Bluewin TV mobile service. Nokia Siemens Networks integrated the mobile television platform with Swisscom’s systems and provided a broad range of services.
Bluewin TV mobile features a HD picture and the viewers have a choice of 20 channels, including SF1, TSR1 and Eurosport. Swisscom’s DVB-H broadcasts reach some 44% of the Swiss population, mostly in Basel, Berne, Geneva, Zurich and Lausanne. Customers outside the DVB-H coverage area or without DVB-H handsets can receive Bluewin TV mobile on the Vodafone live! portal using UMTS/EDGE, which covers 99.8% of the population.
