The identity of bidders for capacity in Portugal’s DTT tender is becoming clearer. It has emerged that Portugal Telecom will now bid single handedly for licences, rather than make a joint bid with Media Capital, with which it had previously been linked.
In a statement, PT said it had reached agreement with public broadcaster RTP and commercial stations SIC and TVI for the distribution of their signals over the DTT network.
Jornal de Negocios now anticipates PT to be the sole bidder for the DTT network and for the proposed pay-TV channel and fifth national station. PT provides transmission facilities for Portugal’s four-channel analogue network.
The deadline for the tender is on Wednesday with telecoms regulator Anacom expected to announced the bidders the following day.
