Worldspace has confirmed the withdrawal of its subscription service to listeners from its North-West Beam with effect from December 1, 2007. The move comes ahead of the operator’s introduction of its mobile digital satellite radio.
Worldspace has now withdrawn the sale of new subscriptions to listeners in Europe and North Africa that would have tuned to the North West Beam of the Afristar satellite. Existing subscribers will have their subscription extended to November 30, 2007. The decision will come as a blow to international listeners of Radio Caroline, Virgin Radio and Talk Sport.
Meanwhile, it has emerged that Worldspace has licensed Certicom’s conditional access system to provide security when it commences its 50-channel mobile digital satellite radio service early in 2008.
