CABLE CONGRESS – AMSTERDAM. The congress theme is That’s Entertainment, and under the watchful eye of BBC Prime’s Ainsley Harriot at the Convention Factory we were. The celebrity chef, turned presenter, guided Cable Europe president Manuel Cubero through the first course. As an appetiser guests were shown clips to BBC shows, not under the Prime brand, but as BBC Entertainment, one of four BBC-branded channels due to be made internationally available later this year.
The second course featured Essent’s Bernard Dijkhuizen and BBC Worldwide’s Dean Possenniskie alongside Dutch chefs Erik and Hans, in what was effectively an episode of Ainsley’s Ready, Steady Cook. Dijkhuizen decided the objective was to beat KPN as well as the eggs and under intense questioning from Ainsley revealed there would be no merger between Essent and the BBC. Well, it would have been interesting to say the least.
The music came from the top selling Dutch artist Trijntje Oosterhuis performing a selection of songs including tracks from her recent Burt Bacharach tribute album. (JC)
