CABLE CONGRESS – AMSTERDAM. Home Box Office is bringing its subscription video on demand service to Central and East Europe. Speaking during the Cable and Content session, Linda Jensen, CEO, HBO, Central and East Europe said that HBO Digital will roll out in the next few weeks, although she didn’t name which market. Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Croatia are the most likely candidates as this is where the cable infrastructure is at its most advanced. “The first launch is planned for next month,” said Jensen. “HBO original series will be happy to make it available across all platforms that can handle it.” She added that HD titles would also be added to networks where there was enough bandwidth. HBO has 2.5 million premium subscribers in Central and East Europe. It has a further 3 million basic subs for its documentary channel and 6 million for Sony’s action and adventure channel AXN. (JC)
