Canal+ topped another successful year in 2006 with the addition of 646,000 new subscribers, the highest total since 1987, relegating the previous year’s achievements in second place. Canal+ closed the year with 5.14 million subscribers, an increase of 76,000 subscribers for the French pay-TV channel, compared with 2005. Le Bouquet pay-TV package now represents 61% of the Canal+ portfolio compared to 52% in 2005.
Subscriptions to the CanalSat pay-TV package, which will shortly merge with rival TPS, were 3.46 million, a net increase of 272,000. Gross additions for the year were 510,000, an increase of 6%, while the churn rate stood at 10.6%.
When the group’s total portfolio is included, such as its overseas operations, Canal+ closed 2006 with over 8.6 million subscribers, a net increase in the region of 350,000.
Revenues for the Canal+ Group, a part of Vivendi Universal, were €3,630 million. This represents an increase of €257 million on 2005.
