Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. has stepped up its presence in Poland by launching the women’s channel Fox Life and announcing plans to open an office. It has also hinted at launching two further channels – Fox Crime and FX – and is widely expected to build on its existing media interests in the country. These already include a minority (48.98%) stake in the religious/family-oriented TV Puls, acquired in mid-2006, and may soon also encompass the radio groups Ad. Point and Eurozet. Separately, the Polish public broadcaster TVP will officially launch its interactive TV service iTVP on Monday, January 15. Funded mostly by advertising, it will offer TVP’s existing channels plus three new ones (news, cultural and sport), along with a VOD library featuring around 3,500 programmes. It is anticipated the service, which has been operating on a test basis for several months, could have up to a million viewers a month by the end of the year. (CD)
