Pay-TV revenues in Spain grew 24% in 2016, according to media authority CNMC.
Turnover of free-to-air television amounted to EUR543 million euros and pay-TV turnover stood at EUR506 million in the fourth quarter of 2016.
By technology, IP television (XDSL / FTTH) recorded a significant increase of 59% in subscriber revenues compared to the fourth quarter of the previous year, with a turnover of EUR285 million.
Satellite DTH TV is runner up with subscriber revenue of 140.2 million, a decline of 8.5%.
Advertising revenues, including conventional advertising, sponsorship, teleshopping, telepromotion and product placement, amounted to EUR622 million (EUR105 million radio and EUR516 million television).
Pay television ad turnover was EUR8 million and EUR508 for FTA television. Private broadcasters received 92% of the total advertising investment on television.
The total subscribers at the end of the fourth quarter of 2016 was 6.06 million, an increase of 56 thousand subscribers compared to the previous quarter. XDSL / FTTH and cable TV services grew by 88 thousand and 23 thousand subscribers, respectively.
Of the total subscribers, 85% had the service contracted under some form of packaging, namely 5.18 million, almost 120,000 more than in the previous quarter.
The fastest-growing package continued to be the fivefold package (combining pay-TV with the four telecommunication services: fixed telephony, mobile telephony, fixed broadband and mobile broadband), which accounted for more than 250,000 new net adds in the quarter And reached a total of 4.8 million subscribers.
Average television consumption during the quarter was 4 hours per person per day, increasing consumption by almost 40 minutes compared to the previous quarter due to the winter months.
By platform, television consumption, both in FTA and pay, was distributed to 78.5% for DTT, 2.7% for satellite television and 18.8% for cable and TV platforms -XDSL / FTTH.
