The majority of German cable subscribers will not be able to see the three new HD channels from Sky Deutschand when they start broadcasting today, Friday August 13. There are still no carriage agreements with the three major nets, Kabel Deutschland, Unitymedia and Kabel BW.
Sky is launching its three new HD channels, Sky Sport HD 2, Sky Cinema Hits HD and Sky Action HD, bringing the total number of high def channels to 10. On Wednesday, the platform announced a framework deal with a number of smaller operators, but so far no contracts are in place with the main operators, who serve millions of cable homes.
A spokesperson for Kabel Deutschland told German press that negotiations with Sky Deutschland about distribution of the new Sky HD channels are still going on. The cabler is eager to increase its output of HD channels, as it just announced three new HD channels from Turner and NBC Universal.
