If you were to wonder where all the new pay-TV subscriptions in Sweden had gone, the answer is probably with the IPTV service provided by the incumbent telco TeliaSonera.
An additional 29,000 subscriptions were added in Sweden during the quarter out of a total 59,000 across the group. The total number of TV subscriptions, including TeliaStofa’s cable operations, rose by 141,000 from the end of 2008 to 798,000, of which 620,000 were IPTV subscriptions. About 26% of TeliaSonera’s broadband customers also subscribe to the IPTV services.
Revenues from IPTV doubled in 2009, when compared to the previous 12 months.
Net sales at the Danish cable TV firm TeliaStofa fell slightly from SEK 373 million in 2008 to SEK 371 million. The number of subscriptions for broadband access
decreased by 3,000 from the end of 2008 to 147,000, while the number of subscriptions for cable TV increased by 8,000 to 218,000.
IPTV subscriptions in Lithuania increased by 11,000 on the quarter to 103,000, while Estonia put on 16,000 to reach 110,000 households.
