Denmark’s competition authority has opened an investigation into the new Viasat-TV2 joint venture sports channel TV2 Sport. The new channel has been priced at DKr25 (€3.35), four times that of Viasat Sport 1, which has been effectively replaced by TV2 Sport. The Danish Cable Television Association (FDA) says that the channel is taking advantage of its members including TDC Cable, which is heavily promoting the channel. The Association says that although sport is an essential part of other networks TV2 Sport has enough significant sports to place it in a near-monopoly position. The Nordic version of Eurosport is also available in the Danish market.
TV2 sport will screen around 2,000 hours of live broadcasting each year including soccer, tennis, cycling, boxing and motor sports. It has the Danish rights to the Uefa Champions League, the summer and winter Olympic Games and the Tour de France.
