Teleste has secured an industry first in securing the first customer approvals and field deployments of DOCSIS 4.0 compliant 1.8 GHz ICON amplifiers in the North American market.
The volume manufacturing of the smart amplifiers uses Teleste’s own automated factory, with the capacity to later ramp-up production as required.
“The cable industry’s promise to deliver 10 Gbps speeds is starting to materialise” says Hanno Narjus, head of Teleste’s Broadband Networks business unit. “When Cable MSOs and technology providers agreed years ago on the common vision of 10G services to the consumers, we knew there would be a lot of heavy lifting to be done to fulfil this promise. We at Teleste feel pride when we can now announce the industry’s first customer approvals and commercial deliveries, and I’d like to thank our customers, partners and Teleste team for making this milestone possible.”
The 1.8 GHz Smart Amplifiers are expected to bring major benefits to Cable operators’ broadband services, including maximum line speeds as well as service quality and network availability.
To date Teleste has received orders from four North American cable operators and the Finnish manufacturer is ready to pursue mass production. “The production environment is an integral extension of the intelligent amplifier and has been continuously improved over three product generations, resulting in highly automated and hence scalable manufacturing machine with less dependency on human labour,” said Pasi Järvenpää, head of Teleste R&D.
The deliveries come as welcome relief for Teleste, which announced lower than expected volumes in the final quarter of 2023, and later commenced negotiations with staff groups over a possible 35 redundancies.
