Excellence across HbbTV services was championed on Tuesday at a presentation in Naples with awards for Mediaset España, the German DVB-I pilot, ZDF & TeraVolt and TV Nova.
Mediaset has been using the HbbTV platform to deliver targeted advertising across mass audiences, while the German DVB-I pilot that uses metadata to combine broadcast and online services was described as “Essential work putting the pieces together and merge broadcast and streaming.”
ZDF & TeraVolt were praised for a simple but effective way of moving seamlessly across content, while TV Nova’s TN Live created a dedicated news channel over HbbTV. “An inspiring example of a new channel relying on the broadcast audience of other channels with blue button pop-up messages allowing viewers to switch directly to its live OTT broadcast, said the jury.
There was also a special jury award for We Do TV, which integrated FAST channels into the HbbTV environment.
“We are excited about the winners of the HbbTV Awards 2023, with both established and new market players providing great examples of innovative, next-generation services enabled by the HbbTV specifications. Congratulation to the winners!”, said Vincent Grivet, Chairman of the HbbTV Association.
The winners were selected by an independent jury of international industry experts.
A total of 26 submissions from 7 countries were received during the call for entries.
