TV Nova to upgrade AVOD service

June 14, 2023 12.31 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

The Czech national commercial broadcaster TV Nova is working on a new version of its AVOD service nova.cz that will be delivered via HbbTV.

Speaking exclusively to Broadband TV News, TV Nova’s CEO Daniel Grunt added that addressable TV is also in its mid-term plans and that by the end of 2024 it will have a pilot through HbbTV. Aside from nova.cz, TV Nova’s digital assets include the TN CZ and SVOD service Voyo.

In Grunt’s view, there is likely to be consolidation in the on demand market, with the Czech Republic capable of sustaining up to three profitable local and global services. It intends to be the operator of one of these services. He also pointed out that Voyo’s churn is low compared to Netflix’s in the Czech Republic.

In addition, Grunt said that Nova is not only strengthening Voyo but also investing more in linear content and its own productions. Ultimately, it is aiming to achieve a balance between SVOD and linear.

TV Nova is part of Central European Media Enterprises (CME), owned by the Czech Republic’s PPF Group.
