Poland’s Polsat Plus Group lost 226,000 contracted pay-TV subscribers in the year to March 31.
The total amounted to 4,951,000 as of the end of Q1, a year-on-year fall of 4.4%.
According to the company in its latest results, the decrease was mainly due to the price repositioning and change in the strategy of offering its video online services (in 2021, it replaced the Ipla platform with the new Polsat Box Go offer, which is differently positioned in terms of pricing), a lower number of provided satellite TV services as well as the decision to discontinue its mobile TV service. This decrease was partially compensated by an increasing number of TV services offered in online technologies (IPTV/OTT).
Polsat also notes that the reduction in pay-TV RGUs contributed to a 216,000 (-1.6%) year-on-year reduction in total contract RGUs to 13,163,000.
Polsat Plus Group had total revenues of €679.3 million in Q1 2023, up from €634.2 million in the same period last year.
Its net profit fell from €45.2 million to €15.1 million.
