Ahlebait TV Networks fined £10,000 for broadcasting antisemitic hate speech

April 25, 2023 12.25 Europe/London By Julian Clover

A Shia Muslim TV channel based in Manchester has been fined £10,000 after the communications regulator ruled a current affairs show “amounted to antisemitic hate speech, and derogatory and abusive treatment of Jewish people’.

The offence took place on 21 March 2021, as part of an edition of Ahlebait TV’s 20th Hour programme called Money Power, Islam and a Just Order.

Ofcom said the content had clear potential to cause significant offence and did not consider there to be sufficient context to justify its broadcast.

In addition to the financial penalty, payable to HM Treasury, Ahlebait TV has been ordered not to repeat the programme and to broadcast a statement of Ofcom findings against it on a date and in a form to be determined by the regulator.
