DAZN and ITV have secured the rights to Indian Premier League cricket on a five-year contract.
The broadcasters reportedly worked together at the expense of Sky Sports, which previously screened the competition.
ITV will have rights to 16 regular season matches that will be shown exclusively by the commercial broadcaster, most likely on ITV4. The remaining 58 games, including the play-offs and final, will be on the DAZN streamed platform.
It will be the first time since 2014 that the IPL has been available free to air on UK television. DAZN already holds the rights to the IPL in South Africa and Australia. This will be its first venture into cricket for DAZN in the UK. Previously the sport has been the domain of Sky, but in recent years it has been of interest to BT Sport, with Viaplay and now DAZN also picking up rights.
Sky recently renewed its contract for ICC global events and the English domestic season including this summer’s Ashes.
