ProSiebenSat.1 channels remain in SD on Astra

February 22, 2023 11.39 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

German media company ProSiebenSat.1 will continue broadcasting its free-TV channels in SD resolution and unencrypted via Astra (19.2° East).

Seven. One Entertainment Group and satellite operator SES extended their satellite transponder contract for several years. The agreement covers distribution of the channels Sat.1, ProSieben, Kabel Eins, sixx, Sat.1 Gold, ProSieben Maxx, Kabel Eins Doku and the Sat.1 local windows for federal states Bavaria and North Rhine-Westphalia.

“Through the new transponder contract we offer comprehensive reception of all our channels via satellite and secure high reach for our advertising customers. Our excellent partnership with SES opens up all possibilities for TV viewers to receive our channels and our major TV formats in linear format: In standard definition, in HD with HD+ and also in UHD,” said Nicole Agudo Berbel, Managing Director and Chief Distribution Officer of Seven. One Entertainment Group.

Christoph Mühleib, Managing Director of SES Germany and responsible for SES and Astra operations in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, added: “Through this multi-year agreement with Seven. One Entertainment Group, we are deepening our partnership. The group’s diverse and universally popular portfolio of channels and programmes is an essential building block in our TV offering, which reaches 17 million households in Germany. Our users enjoy an incredible variety of German-language and international channels. This is because by far the most programmes can be received free-to-air via satellite.”
