TNT Sports will replace the BT Sport brand in the UK and Ireland from July 2023.
The new name follows the establishment of the joint venture between BT Group and Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) and will be in place ahead of the start of the 2023/25 football season.
“While Warner Bros. Discovery is excited to contribute its global scale and capabilities, together with its growing portfolio of premium entertainment, we are also determined to ensure we don’t compromise on the inimitable, local style that is at the heart of the way BT Sport has connected with fans over the past decade,” said Andrew Georgiou, board member of the Joint Venture and President and Managing Director, Warner Bros. Discovery Sports Europe.
The brand will be familiar to sports fans in the United States and a number of Latin American countries as part of the TNT network, where it is seen alongside sports including European football, NBA, NHL and NCAA.
In the UK and Ireland, TNT Sports will pick up on the portfolio of sports currently offered by BT Sport. WBD has plans to roll Eurosport into TNT Sports in the UK market, though this won’t happen immediately.
Between TNT Sports and Eurosport the rights portfolio includes the Olympic Games, the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, Premiership Rugby, MotoGP, UFC, Boxing, WWE, tennis Grand Slams, cycling Grand Tours and the winter sports season.
In line with the rebranding Discovery+ will become the streaming home for TNT Sports, Eurosport and entertainment from the existing Discovery offer.
