Liberty Networks Germany, a joint venture between Liberty Global and InfraVia Capital Partners, has stopped its deployment of fibre-optic networks across Germany.
Local press reports from the regions affected by the decision quote a Liberty Networks spokesperson confirming the move, but no reasons were given. The company founded in 2021 started its fibre network rollout under the helloFiber brand in the first German regions last year.
Staff received their redundancy notices two days before Christmas 2022, sources familiar with the matter told Broadband TV News, adding that the insolvency administrator has already paid a visit to the company.
Liberty Global, Liberty Networks Germany and helloFiber did not respond when contacted regarding a statement.
Liberty Global operated German cable operator Unitymedia for a decade, passing 13 million homes, and reaching 7.2 million customers before its sale to Vodafone in 2019. With its fibre joint venture, the company returned to the German market in 2021.
