The Spanish regulator CNMC has announced that it will auction the last remaining spectrum for 5G services, namely the 26 GHz band, on December 22.
The other bands have already been awarded and are in use in the current deployment of 5G networks. Although the 26 GHz band has a shorter range than the other bands, it offers much higher signal quality and capacity.
Separately, CNMC says that over 15 million fixed broadband lines in Spain now have a contracted speed of 100 Mbps or more.
All told, as of Q2 this year more than eight out of 10 broadband lines were fibre. Furthermore, 76.1% of fixed broadband lines belonged to the three main operators, or 3.5pp less than a year earlier.
The regulator also notes that revenues from retail telecom services in Q2 amounted to €5,751 million and were stable compared to a year earlier.
