HbbTV Association announces 2022 Award Winners

November 10, 2022 08.44 Europe/London By Julian Clover | Prague

Winners of the HbbTV Awards 2022 have been announced at a ceremony in Prague.

Local broadcaster TV Nova picked up two awards, the Best use of HbbTV for advertising-based solutions for its Max Reach product and the Newcomer award for the enthusiasm it has shown towards the hybrid broadcast-broadband TV protocol. “From almost zero activity TV Nova became a prominent promoter of HbbTV services,” remarked the Jury.

The Members’ Award was presented to Klaus Merkel of rbb, who had continued his work for HbbTV even after the closure of his previous employer, the public broadcasters’ Institut für Rundfunktechnik (IRT).

The awards were presented as part of the 10th HbbTV Symposium and Awards in Prague, co-hosted by the HbbTV Association and the Czech Association of Commercial Television (AKTV).

Other awards were picked up by Fincons, ZDF, Kineton and Cellnex.

“Congratulations to the winners of the HbbTV Awards 2022! As usual, the submissions have been highly interesting and impressive,” said Vincent Grivet, Chairman of the HbbTV Association. “They also confirm a shift from the previous dominance of sophisticated innovations with yet-to-prove market impact to mainstream products and applications, for example promoting a broadcaster’s VOD consumer proposal. The winners provide great examples of how HbbTV is now a tangible commercial reality for broadcasters, manufacturers and viewers.”

The winners were selected by an independent jury of international industry experts. A total of 35 submissions from 9 countries were received during the call for entries.
