SkyShowtime sets out CEE plans

November 4, 2022 10.52 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

The new international streaming service SkyShowtime will officially launch in Central and Eastern Europe on December 14.

In will initially be made available in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia and that date and then expand into Albania, Czech Republic, Hungary, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia in February 2023.

According to SkyShowtime CEO Monty Sarhan, “SkyShowtime was created for Europe and we are thrilled to tell customers across Central & Eastern Europe that it’s almost time for SkyShowtime. We are excited to bring them exclusive access to the latest series and movies from our iconic and world-renowned studios as well as a premium line-up of quality local entertainment. After successful launches across North Europe and Portugal, expanding into these important markets and bringing SkyShowtime to even more people across Europe is an important milestone for us”.

SkyShowtime will feature blockbuster film premieres, new premium scripted series, kids and family content, and a curated selection of library titles and box sets from Universal Pictures, Paramount Pictures, Nickelodeon, DreamWorks Animation, Paramount+, SHOWTIME, Sky Studios, and Peacock – all streaming in one place. SkyShowtime will also feature local original programming, documentaries, and specials.

Speaking to Broadband TV News, Sarhan said he did not believe the streaming market in CEE is already crowded. Consumers always want choice and SkyShowtime will offer great content at great prices. Although its cost will vary from territory to territory, the service is committed to deliver the most value to consumers.

Asked whether SkyShowtime will replace Paramount+, he added the latter is not present in the CEE markets SkyShowtime will launch.

Sarhan also said that SkyShowtime is committed to local productions and at this stage does not plan to expand beyond 22 European markets.

Furthermore, SkyShowtime is part of Sky’s, and indeed Paramount’s, expansion into non-Sky markets.

SkyShowtime first launched in Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden on September 20 this year, before expanding into the Netherlands and Portugal on October 25. Following its upcoming launches across Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo, Montenegro, Serbia, and Slovenia in December, it will continue its roll out across Spain, Andorra, and Central & Eastern Europe through Q1 2023.
