Salto, the French broadcasters’ joint streaming service has reached 800,000 subscribers.
When subscribers enjoying one of the free one-month trial subscriptions are included the total stands at 900,000. In March, subscriber numbers were estimated to be between 500,000 and 700,000.
It had been anticipated that commercial broadcasters TF1 and M6 would have bought out their public service partner France Télévisions once their merger had completed at a cost of €45 million.
However, with the merger collapsing following the intervention of the competition authorities it’s back to the drawing board for the two-year old venture.
Sources quoted by the media outlet Le Figaro said a meeting between the shareholders is due in the next few days, but has yet to be set.
