UK radio stations will be able to join a new platform on the DTT platform.
UK Radio Portal will go live on September 21, 2022, and is designed to offer a selection of internet-delivered radio channels via an easy-to-use interface accessible from the Freeview Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) on Channel 277.
It uses HbbTV to deliver the radio services to consumers through connected TVs and set?top boxes.
Unlike RadioPlayer, which may be available on some Smart TVs, stations available on UK Radio Portal may not necessarily hold an Ofcom licence.
The BBC’s audio streaming service is already available on Freeview Play.
As of October 2021, Freeview Play was used in over 10 million homes following the sale of 14 million devices.
