The Austrian government has given details of its oft-postponed incentive scheme to produce the international production for cinema, TV and streaming services.
Under the plans, up to 35% of costs can be reimbursed by the Austrian state, putting it well ahead of similar schemes. The standard rate has been set at 30% with the full 35% available to productions that can show themselves to be carbon neutral.
Austria is the first county in Europe to offer up an eco bonus.
Funding will be capped at €5 million for individual projects with €7.5 million for serials. The previous principal of first-come, first-served funding is also being dropped.
Secretary of State for Culture Andrea Mayer, who represents the Green party, said: “With the new film package we are strengthening the entire industry. We are not only strengthening international productions, but also Austrian films.”
The funding will be in place from early next year under the management of FISA+.
