UPC Slovakia has asked TV Markiza to continue offering its thematic channel Krimi free of charge to operators.
Markiza, which is one of the leading commercial broadcasters in Slovakia, charges for all services in its portfolio, which includes Markiza, Doma, Dajto, Nova Sport 1 and 2 and Nova International.
According to UPC, Markiza regularly increases costs to operators, which are then passed on to subscribers. If Markíza did not increase costs for operators at such a pace, customers would have significantly cheaper TV services. “UPC therefore invites all viewers watching the channels from the Markiza group to contact its representatives – by phone or email – with a request that the Markiza Krimi be free of charge, not only temporarily, but permanent”.
Commenting on the situation, Martin Miller, CEO of UPC Broadband Slovakia, added: “At a time when our customers are facing one of the biggest economic and financial crises, at a time of rising inflation, when the costs of housing, transport, energy and almost all goods and services are rising, our aim is not to contribute to further growth in household costs. At UPC, we act in the interests of our customers and want them to be able to watch their preferred TV channels today, tomorrow, and in a year’s time”.
