Ziggo retains LaLiga rights

June 23, 2022 12.20 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Ziggo Sport has extended its exclusive rights to the Spanish football league LaLiga for another three years.

It takes the current contract from 2024 through to 2029. Ziggo has also retained the services of Spanish football expert and commentator Sierd de Vos.

The extension concerns the rights to broadcast matches live and in summary on TV, the internet and via social media. La Liga, which has a decades-long connection with Dutch top trainers and football players, can be followed weekly via Ziggo Sport, the free channel for all digital Ziggo subscribers and via the the Ziggo Sport Totaal pay-TV package, which is available from all distributors in the Netherlands.

Commenting on the development, Marcel Beerthuizen, director of Ziggo Sport, said: ‘in recent months we have succeeded in retaining important football rights, such as LaLiga and Ligue 1. We are very happy that Sierd (de Vos) will continue to provide commentary for La Liga in the coming years. The full stadiums, illustrious clubs and global top players together with Sierd’s distinctive style and exhaustive knowledge of Spanish football make the competition a joy to watch”.

Melcior Soler, La Liga’s audiovisual director, added: “Dutch football fans love to watch La Liga. We have been working together with Ziggo Sport in the Netherlands for many years. Through the channel the whole of the Netherlands can experience the competition up close on a weekly basis. We are delighted that Ziggo Sport will remain our exclusive partner for at least another seven years”.

Ziggo Sport’s right portfolio also includes Italian Serie A, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Nations League, the English FA Cup, Ajax friendly matches, Italian Coppa Italia, the national competitions of Belgium, Portugal and Scotland and the qualifications for World Cups and European Championships.
