In a statement, it says: “Several days remain until the expiry of the current licence, and the National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT) has not yet made a decision to grant a licence for another period, despite the broadcaster meeting all the conditions”.
It adds that “viewers can express their solidarity with the channel by asking the KRRiT for an immediate licence”.
The campaign began on TVN7 on February 8 and is being extended to all of the group’s channels on February 9.
Broadband TV News notes that the KRRiT is holding back on awarding TVN7 a terrestrial licence, echoing a similar situation that existed last year for the flagship TVN that could have resulted in Discovery being forced to exit the Polish market. This was only averted at the last moment when President Andrzej Duda vetoed the so-called ‘Lex TVN’.
Although TVN7 recently received a Dutch cable and satellite licence, it will no longer be available terrestrially in Poland if it fails to secure a licence from the KRRiT.
