Poland’s two leading media groups are now unlikely to launch a joint on demand platform.
This was effectively confirmed by Maciej Stec, VP Cyfrowy Polsat, quoted by Wirtualne Media. He added that Cyfrowy Polsat is preparing for increased competition in the on-demand sector and is focused on the implementation of its strategy and content. That includes content production by Telewizja Polsat. Furthermore. Polsat Box is already one of the best platforms in such areas as sport.
Poland’s VOD market, which is already served by Netflix, Polsat Box, Canal+, Viaplay and several other services, will next year be joined by HBO Max, Disney+ and SkyShowTime.
Broadband TV News notes that Cyfrowy Polsat and TVN Discovery Group signed an agreement in late 2019 to launch a joint on-demand platform. The European Commission refused to make a ruling on the proposed platform, instead passing the decision on to the Polish competition authority UOKiK.
