Canal+ launches Hisense app

October 14, 2021 12.26 Europe/London By Julian Clover

Canal+ will gain a button on the remote control of new Hisense TVs taking viewers direct to its app.

The app is launching on all recent Hisense TV sets in the French market. The button will appear on the QLED A7GQ and E76GQ series models.

“We are pleased to be able to deploy Canal+ on all our 4K UHD TVs that are equipped with our in-house VIDAA 4 and VIDAA 5 operating systems. For the first time in France, the Canal+ application is accessible directly from the remote control with its dedicated button. This reinforces our strategy to offer the French public ever simpler access to connected TV,” said Damien Neymarc, Marketing Manager at Hisense France.

The new app includes Expert Mode, used during some of Canal’s high-profile sports coverage, plus access to live control, restart and profile management. Movies and series in UltraHD from the Canal+ 4K UHD channel and in the 4K UHD section of the app.

“This collaboration also marks a new stage in our commitment to deploy Canal+ on the equipment used by our subscribers. We are delighted that Hisense, by allowing direct and rapid access to Canal+ content with the remote control, is responding to strong market demand,” said Philippe Schwerer, Director of VOD, boxes, manufacturer partnerships and platforms at Canal+.

Placing a branded button on the remote is a familiar device in driving audiences to streaming services. The master of the art has been Netflix, though recent Amazon Fire TV remotes feature buttons for Netflix, Disney+, and of course Amazon Music and Prime Video.
