Amazon’s $8.5 billion acquisition of the movie and TV studio MGM is set for a lengthy investigation by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
Quoting a source familiar with the matter, reported first by The Information, Reuters says that the agency has issued a second request in its review of the transaction and that this would likely result in it taking months to make a ruling.
As previously reported by Broadband TV News, Amazon entered into an agreement to buy MGM this May.
The following month, according to Reuters, Amazon asked the FTC chair Lina Khan to be recused on anti-trust matters because of research she had previously done.
The FTC is said to be taking a hard line on acquisitions by Amazon in industries where it does not have a strong position.
