Vodafone wants to remove the analogue radio channels from its cable network in Germany.
A gradual switchover to digital distribution in DVB-C standard will begin in April 2022 and will be completed by February 2023, a Vodafone Deutschland spokesman told Broadband TV News. “The carriage of analogue radio signals will subsequently be discontinued on a date that has not yet been determined.”
The three federal states formerly served by Unitymedia – Baden-Württemberg, Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia – are affected. In all other federal states, Vodafone already no longer offers analogue cable radio.
“With this move, we are getting closer to our goal of unifying the previously different cable network structures,” said the spokesperson. Vodafone had taken over Unitymedia in 2019.
Vodafone will work closely with the radio broadcasters and offer digital carriage to all partners as part of the transition, the spokesperson said. “We will inform our cable customers about the details of the process well in advance of the switchover.”
