Altice is offering voluntary redundancy to 2,000 employees in Portugal.
According to Diario de Noticias, the second phase of what is known as the Pessoa programme starts this Thursday, March 4, with priority given to those aged over 55.
It will be followed by another phase, with no age limit, and around half of the 2,000 employees are expected to take up the offer.
Commenting on the development, João Zúquete da Silva, CCO at Altice Portugal, said that it was aimed at thinning the operator’s structure in order to “become more agile” and face a “hostile macroeconomic and regulatory environment”.
Portugal remains a key market for Altice, which invests around €500 million in the country each year. The company has steadily reduced its workforce in the last few years, from 10,500 internal employees and 66 first-line directors to current levels of 8,000 and 37 respectively.
Significantly, Altice says responsibility for the reorganisation lies with the regulator ANACOM and competition authority AdC for opposing investment in Portugal.
