Pay-TV boost for Digi

Digi Communications’ TV business grew strongly in Romania in 2020.

Preliminary results published by the company show that RCS&RDS ended the year with 4,733,000 pay-TV subscribers, up from 4,097,000 in 2019.

Its fixed internet and data business also grew strongly, seeing its subscriber total increase from 2,775,000 to 3,313,000 over the same year.

However, ARPU for its businesses in Romania, which also include fixed and mobile telephony, were nevertheless unchanged at €4.9.

Digi performed less well in Hungary where its pay-TV subscriber total fell from 959,000 in December 2019 to 933,000 at the end of last year.

At the same time, the fixed internet and data subscriber total was virtual unchanged (750,000 in 2019, 749,000 in 2020) and ARPU fell from €6.5 to €5.9.

Digi, which also has non-TV operations in Spain, had total revenues of €1,281,569,000 in 2020, up from €1,186,026,000 a year earlier. However, its net profit fell from €40,584,000 to €16,358,000.
