Romania ended the first half of this year with 7.7 million pay-TV subscribers, or 2% more than at the start of 2020.
Within this total, according to the regulator ANCOM, summarising “exceptional historical developments and many reversals of trends against the background of the health crisis”, 5.6 million were cable subscriptions (+4% in total, of which +9% in rural and +1% in urban areas).
Furthermore, RCS&RDS had a market share of 55%, Telekom 16% and other providers a total of 29%.
Meanwhile, the number of fixed internet connects as of the end of H1 amounted to 5.5 million, +3% on the total at the beginning of the year.
Fixed internet traffic increased by 33% and RCS&RDS was the leading provider with a share of 55%. It was followed by Telekom with 20% and other provider with a total of 25%.
Telecom revenues in H1 fell by 4% to almost €1.7 billion, with TV retransmission accounting for 14% of the total. Vodafone and Telekom each had a market share of 25%, Orange 24% and other providers a total of 26%.
