The number of pay-TV subscriptions increased by 8,000 in September, according to the latest figures published by the regulator NMHH.
Based on data provided by the 10 leading providers and covering around 95% of the pay-TV market, they show that 81.3% of subscribers used digital services. Of these, 2,014,000 opted for cable or IPTV, up from 2,000,000 a month earlier.
Wireless (DTH and MMDS) accounted for 684,000 and pay-DTT 84,000 subscribers respectively.
Digital cable and IPTV subscribers increased to 58.8% of the total, wireless fell to 22.4% and analogue cable remained at 18.7%.
Magyar Telekom was the market leader in the fixed sector, claiming a share of 32.5%. It was followed by Digi (27.8%) and Vodafone (23.8%).
Digi was the leading provider of wireless services (32.4%), followed by Telekom (28.4%), UPC Direct (28.2%) and MinDig TV Extra (10.9%).
Meanwhile, the number of fixed broadband connections grew to 3.184 million in September. The number of xDSL subscriptions fell to 608,000 and the leading cable operators had 1.314 million broadband customers. FTTx, on the other hand, continued to gain in popularity, ending the month with 960,000 subscribers.
Telekom was the leading provider of fixed broadband services irrespective of technology, with a market share of 38.4%.
It was followed by Digi and Vodafone, with 23% and 21.4% respectively, with the remaining providers claiming a combined total of 17.2%.
