Spanish public broadcaster RTVE has successfully demonstrated a UHD 8K signal that was broadcast over the DVB-T2 terrestrial platform.
The demonstration at the Polytechnic University of Madrid on Wednesday is believed to be the first time the configuration has been used anywhere in the world.
Cellnex, Dolby, Sapec, Sony, SGO and Samsung also participated in the pilot.
The programme took the format of an interview show in which RTVE media relations director Carlos Garrido interviewed a number of participants in the project.
“Public television is and has to be at the forefront of these events. RTVE is always a pioneer in the development of new technologies,” explained RTVE director David Valcarce.
The 8K (7680×4320 pixels) signal was broadcast with High Dynamic Range and HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) conforming to the STD-B67 standard. The frame rate was 50 frames per second.
The HEVC standard was used for video coding, the Dolby AC4 audio coding and the DVB-T2 standard for the transmission of content.
