Orion helps launch “unique” new channels

October 15, 2020 12.28 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Russia’s Orion and Mariot have implemented the launch of two new channels in the country.

As a technical partner of the project, Orion has provided a full range of services for the TV channels’ broadcast and distribution. The technical launch of Courtroom and Gagsnetwork will take place on October 19. They will be available to Orion’s DTH platform (“Telekarta”) subscribers after they are have received TV broadcasting licences.

Orion will be providing satellite uplink, HD and SD play-out, ground signal delivery and distribution of the TV channels to cable operator networks. Brooadcast of the channels will be carried out from the Horizons 2 and Express-AM5 satellites. Courtroom and Gagsnetwork will be included in Telerkarta’s Leader and Premier packages and will be also delivered by Orion to all major Russian telecom operators in SD format with the help of satellites and in HD format via ground communication channels.

Courtroom wiil be the first and only judicial TV channel in Russia, while Gagsnetwork will be the world’s first TV channel of silent humour that can be watched without any sound and translation.

Commenting on the development, Mariot’s content manager Vladimir Ageykin said: “Our company has been managing media content for many years, as well as producing a high-quality educational and entertaining product for Russian viewers, which was broadcast on national TV channels. Our collection has gained a large number of programmes both from our own and our partners’ production, so we decided to create two thematic channels”.

Andrey Trufanov, head of telecom services at the Orion group, added: “Nowadays, TV viewers have a huge selection of TV channels to choose from, but the new products of the Mariot company offer unique content which is in demand on the Russian market, so we are glad to be part of this project. The capacity of our media platform allow us to provide TV broadcasters with a full range of services, offering a “one-stop shop” high-quality service, smooth operation and good pricing. This approach attracts content creators”.
