Spacecom and the State Space Agency of Ukraine (GKAU) are reported to be jointly developing a telecommunications satellite.
Quoting sources familiar with the matter, Mediasat adds that the satellite will be designed specifically for the Ukrainian market and once operational occupy the 4 degrees West orbital slot.
This is currently the location of Amos 3 and Amos 7, which are used by many Ukrainian TV channels.
Ukraine at one stage planned to launch its own geostationary satellite following an agreement between MDA Corporation (since renamed Maxar Technology) and GKAU.
However, work on the project, known as Lybid-1, was suspended in 2014 due to political instability and three years later MDA completely withdrew from the agreement.
