HGTV to launch in Lithuania

October 9, 2020 10.42 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Cgates and Discovery have entered into a strategic partnership that will bring the home and gardening channel HGTV to Lithuania.

Commenting on the development, Ekaterina Mihajlovic, snr. commercial development manager Discovery CEEMCA (Central and Eastern Europe, Mediterranean and Central Asia, said: “Our strategic partnership with Cgates marks a key milestone on the Lithuanian market, by bringing HGTV, our home and gardening channel, in addition to the current portfolio. We have launched HGTV already in Latin America, Asia and Europe, in markets such as Germany, Poland, Romania, Hungary, Estonia and is also now available for Cgates subscribers in Lithuania. According to our data, there are 163 million people interested in decoration, DIY and home improvement across Europe – so we have a great opportunity to tap into this audience for HGTV, as a first on the Lithuanian market”.

Tomas Tobulevicius, head of TV content acquisitions at Cgates, added: “Today’s pay-TV services’ customer is very demanding. When there is an abundance of easily accessible content from many different sources, the user of paid TV services wants exceptional quality, smooth functionality and a broad range of options to choose from. By extending our strategic cooperation with Discovery, we expect that it will help us to deliver on our promise to offer the best content in the most convenient form”.

Cgates will be the first operator in Lithuania to offer its subscribers HGTV.

Its channel line-up already includes Discovery’s flagship channels Eurosport 1, Eurosport 2, Discovery Channel, TLC, ID, Food Network and Travel Channel.
